Definition of Bertilon

		    		 French
- French criminologist known for his development of an early method for the unique identification of criminals, bertillonage. While working for the Paris police department, he began taking various anthropometric measurements and cataloguing them first by head size, then through eleven sub-category elements. This system proved to be less than fool-proof and was all but abandoned with the advent of finger printing. His system lives on as a means for the identification of racing greyhounds.
