Fire"man (?), n.; pl. Firemen (-men). 1. A man whose business is to extinguish fires in towns; a member of a fire company.

2. A man who tends the fires, as of a steam engine; a stocker.

• One skilled in the work of fighting fire.
  
• #Extinguishing the fire through the process of cooling or smothering it; usually with a fire hose or fire extinguisher, or by removing the fuel. Firemen are often called upon for related duties, such as fire prevention and emergency medical services.
