D. heilbot, G. heilbutt. So named as being eaten on

A large, northern, marine flatfish (Hippoglossus
vulgaris), of the family Pleuronectidæ. It often
grows very large, weighing more than three hundred pounds. It is an
important food fish. [Written also holibut.]
